Jackson is joining the ranks of cities such as New York, Chicago, Detroit, and St. Louis.
Mark your calendar, get a babysitter and plan a date because October 2-8 is the first official Jackson Restaurant Week. Yaaay!
Why you should participate
There are two basic reasons your patronage is beneficial: to support local restaurants and support local charities. Eating for a good cause, if you will.
How it supports local restaurants
Taste what Jackson has to offer and enjoy a meal out at an old favorite or new spot! Participating restaurants have put together special prix fixe menus for lunch and/or dinner; sample some of their best dishes at a set price. The restaurants range in cost, so you can go out for a causal lunch or fancy dinner. Or both, all week long.
How it supports local charities
Every time you eat off the Jackson Restaurant Week menu, it will earn you an opportunity to vote for one of five charity finalists. At the end of the week the charity with the most votes will receive a donation of at least $10,000. Cash money.
These are the five charities in the running:
- Friend’s of Batson Children’s Hospital
- Community Animal Rescue and Adoptions
- Parents for Public Schools: Ask for More Arts
- Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Association
- Alzheimer’s Association
Get your forks ready
We have the chance to really “put our money where our mouth is” when it comes to supporting our community and businesses. I’ve already previewed the menus and am strategically making a game plan. There is no better week to find an excuse (like I need one) to meet a friend for lunch, so I hope to see you out and about.
Look for a couple guests posts I’ll be writing for the Jackson Restaurant Week website.

If I still lived there, I would totally be up for a lunch date!
We only went to one restaurant (the Sazerac) during NOLA restaurant week, but it was because we were using Scales and Ales as date night. I kind of wish we had just skipped it and done dinner instead.

In NOLA it would be hard for every week not to be restaurant week.
