Recently Campbell’s Bakery re-opened in Fondren after undergoing a much needed face lift and under different management.
Local pastry chef Mitchell Moore, the new owner, already had a following because he steadily supplies area restaurants with his cheesecakes. (The lady behind the case is his sweet momma who waited on us.) Naturally cheesecakes are a new fixture in the bakery line-up, in addition to a number of other sugary treats.
Before the transformation and ownership transition I made it there once; see the previous interior and a cute fish cookie.
Not too long ago, I coerced friends to pop-in on our lunch hour for dessert.
We walked into a warm, sunny and bright interior with an airy layout. One case was dedicated for displaying cheesecakes and cannoli (score!), the other held cupcakes, brownies, cookies and bars.
I couldn’t pass up a cannoli (they are few and far between down here) which was crisp and creamy. The brownie took care of my chocolate fix, and next time I am determined to get my hands on a slice of the notorious cheesecake.
