As if we don’t have enough reasons to relish weekends…this breakfast sandwich is another addition to a long list which includes leisurely meals, college football, and naps.
The previous weekend a friend and his son came for a visit and took the train from New Orleans to Jackson. There is one departure time between these cities; they arrived at 6 p.m. on Saturday (one hour late) and departed around 1 p.m. on Sunday (two hours late). That’s Amrack for you.
During that short trip I made macaroni and cheese with chicken and broccoli, chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips, and popcorn. We got coffee at Cups, breakfast at Broad Street Bakery and lunch at Keifer’s.
Broad Street Bakery is in our lunch rotation after church. We’ve nearly eaten through the entire sandwich section of the menu. The desserts call to me by name and their King Cake is fantastic.
Once in awhile we’ll stray from our Primo’s alliance and go somewhere else for breakfast. The breakfast sandwich from Broad Street Bakery is a steal of a deal at only $3.50. A fresh biscuit is loaded with eggs, three cheese blend and your choice of meat: bacon, ham, sausage or turkey sausage. Getting it on a croissant will cost you $2 more.
Ben got the special for the day which included eggs, a bread choice and two sides. He ordered cheese grits and hash browns, which was more like a casserole with cheese and green peppers or chilies. The Belgian waffle was okay and the quiche looked like a good option too. I had to resist ordering one of everything from the bakery display case.
It was a fun, food-filled 19 hours, exactly how weekends should be.
