Last night a girlfriend and I dined at Chris McD’s a local Columbia spot, not a place with a scary clown and golden arches.
I imagine it gets overlooked quite a bit being located in a strip mall. However, our negative preconceived notions disappeared once we walked in. Not too big or small, the main dining room is just the right size, it felt cozy, not cramped. Our server was very attentive throughout the night, and the menu is heavy on seafood and steaks, their specialties.
I immediately spied a warm bacon sherry dressing spinach salad with Gorgonzola, candied walnuts and granny smith apple. It’s hard to find a salad worth raving about, but it was delicious! I would go back just for that salad. My focus was on dessert, so with my salad I ordered the french onion soup and chicken croquettes. My friend got a wedge salad with blue cheese dressing and thai shrimp, she enjoyed both. To finish, we split the butterscotch cheesecake which was kind of standard, but good.
Now, I know what you might think. How can you take a restaurant recommendation based on a salad. (This is the kind of thing I give my mom a hard time about.)
My critique might have little basis, BUT everything I had was yummy and the menu had plenty of appealing dishes that were hard to choose from. So, take it as you will.
I had purchased a $25 gift certificate off of Restaurant.com for a mere $2, which is a great deal to try out a new or pricey place. We got $58 dollars worth of food (plus tip) for about $20 a piece. So buy cheap certificates off Restaurant.com and go try out Chris McD’s. You will be McHappy that you did.
